National forest and outdoors in Butte Falls
Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest
Butte Falls sits at the edge of national forest land. The U.S. Forest Service describes the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest as running from the Cascade crest west into the Siskiyou Mountains in southwestern Oregon. Its site carries current alerts, including fire restrictions, so check it before you drive out. The High Cascades Ranger District office in Prospect (541-560-3400) answers questions for the area.
Willow Lake
Willow Lake County Park is run by Jackson County Parks. The county says it is at 7800 Fish Lake Road, 7.5 miles east of Butte Falls, with 927 acres and 4.4 miles of lake frontage. Listed activities are hiking, swimming, fishing for trout, bass and crappie, camping and boating. Day use is open year-round during daylight hours. Fees, camping dates and the boat ramp status change, so use the county page for current information.
Fishing and hunting
Fishing and hunting seasons, tags and licenses are set by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW). Its Southwest Zone pages cover the Rogue basin, and its weekly fishing report names Lost Creek Reservoir and the Rogue River above it.
Lost Creek Lake
Lost Creek Lake is about 30 miles northeast of Medford on the Rogue River. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers runs it and lists boating, fishing, hiking and wildlife viewing, a trail along 30 miles of shoreline and a visitor center. Recreation.gov carries the Corps description and phone number (541-878-2255). See our Trail edition for more.
